CAREER COACHING TIPS: Selling Is a Life Skill
There are similarities between entrepreneurship and interviewing for a job.
A lot of times we are looking for tips on how to be successful. What I realize through my own efforts in entrepreneurship and the whole premise behind my soon to be published book, Ace the Job Interview: The Fundamental Skills Needed to Ace Any Job Interview, is that it doesn't matter what tips you get if you do not master the skills needed to use those tips effectively.
For example, selling skill is a lot more important for an entrepreneur than their idea. If they cannot sell their idea to investors or customers, it's difficult to profit from that idea. Same holds true in a job interview.
You may have all the credentials and experience but without polishing up on your selling skills, it will be difficult to articulate yourself in a job interview.
That is why I encourage kids to start learning how to sell at a young age. And as parents, I know we mean well when we are the ones that goes out and sell those candies and other goodies to fundraise for their schools. And sometimes we end up buying most of them ourselves. Lol. But my point is we take away that learning experience from our children.
Learning to sell is not just for the sales professional. It is a life skill.

CAREER COACHING TIPS: Finding What You Love To Do Is A Journey Not a Plan
People often give the advice: Do what you love.
However, doing what you love to do is not a thinking process nor does your heart may reveal it immediately.
Doing what you love to do may not be revealed to you until later in life.
How many of you have a college degree and your job now is totally different from what you wanted to do? How many of you change majors while in college?
As a parent, I understand we want what is best for our son or daughter however, I think giving the advice of doing what you love is misguiding.
When I was 18 years old, I was confused. I loved to do lot of things and needed time to explore. I couldn't immediately answer the question what do I love to do. Imagine what do you think they are going through in the process as well.
Finding out what you love to do is a journey not a plan.
Thus the job you obtain in the interim may not be your dream job but there may something there that gets you motivated to go to work and get some satisfaction in what you do to do great work.
And you never know, that job may later become a career for you and you end up doing what you love to do.
